Dual spec and respecs in WoW Forever

By 40 you carry two builds. Level in one, heal or tank dungeons in the other, and leave respecs for real changes.

How talents work in Forever

  • 51 points from level 10 to 60, seven rows, 5 points per row to unlock the next; arrow prerequisites must be at full rank.
  • Milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, plus the new 16-point milestone.
  • Under the hood the trees run on the modern trait system with tier gates at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 points spent; that is why the Legacy perk Talented can start your points at level 5.
  • Talents, including Legacy perks, are changed at a class trainer in a major city.

Dual specialization

Unlocks at 40 for 10 gold. Swap freely outside combat and battlegrounds. Each spec keeps its own action bars. Suggested pairs: Retribution and Holy, Feral and Restoration, Fury and Protection, Shadow and Discipline, Enhancement and Restoration, Beast Mastery and Survival, Frost and Fire, Affliction and Demonology, Combat and Subtlety.

Respec charges

Two hidden currencies track recent talent resets and recent Legacy resets, each capped at 10 charges. Class charges return every hour; Legacy charges every week. The price you see is cheap when you have not reset recently and climbs when you churn. Plan Legacy per character and use dual spec for role changes.

Use the calculator to save both specs and open them from links; the build library has an endgame build for every spec.

Questions players ask

When do I get dual spec in WoW Forever?
Level 40, for 10 gold at a class trainer. Swapping between the two is free outside combat and battlegrounds. Changing the talents inside a spec still costs a respec.
How much does a respec cost?
The client meters respecs with up to 10 charges that recharge one per hour; during the beta the cost dropped to 1 silver after an hour and to 5 gold at level 20 when used quickly. Legacy resets recharge one per week. Blizzard says each spec's fee decays to 1 gold over time.
What is the 16-point milestone?
A new one-point talent placed between the old 11 and 21 point marks in each tree, so a secondary tree has something to reach at 16 points. Milestones sit at 11, 16, 21 and 31.
