Currencies and marks

  • Honor Points (capacity 25,000): kills, battleground wins, PvP quests. Honor was evened across battlegrounds, and the Call to Arms week pays bonus Honor and Rank Points.
  • Rank Points: battlegrounds, PvP quests and weekly season tasks, some from Gadgetzan.
  • Marks of Honor stack to 30: Warsong Gulch (20558), Arathi Basin (20559), Alterac Valley (20560), Darkspear Islands (274895). Darkspear repeatable quests take 3 marks for 150 reputation; Warsong and Arathi quests take 1 mark for 200.
  • Season journeys: ten weekly quests covering battleground kills, Gurubashi Arena kills, Alterac Valley kills, ten duel wins and Darkspear wins; three of them grant a Legacy Point. Field of Honor checkpoints at weeks 4, 7 and 10.

World PvP and rulesets

  • Normal: PvP only when both sides opt in. PvP ruleset: contested zones are open war, one faction per account, and Blizzard may limit creation for the dominant faction. Roleplay and RP-PvP exist at launch; Hardcore comes later and cannot queue with others.
  • Killing enemy players in the world earns Honor. Classic honorable-kill rules apply: targets near your level, diminishing returns on the same player within a day, and killing civilians costs Honor.
  • Horde are attacked on sight in Dalaran. A Mak'gora arena in Hyjal Crater and a /makgora command sit in the files, unannounced.

PvP builds: browse PvP builds. Legacy challenges tied to PvP: ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 and Exalted with each battleground faction.

Questions players ask

What is the difference between Honor Points and Rank Points?
Honor Points (cap 25,000) are earned from kills and battlegrounds and buy PvP gear. Rank Points come from battlegrounds, PvP quests and weekly season tasks (including tasks in Gadgetzan) and move you through the 14 ranks, which unlock purchases. Rank 1 needs 750 Rank Points; ranks have a weekly cap so rank 3 is the earliest in week one and rank 14 in week ten.
How do PvP epics work?
Honor buys a blue set. Each epic piece is the blue piece plus a rank-locked Emboldened Seal: wrist and waist at rank 8, boots at 9, gloves at 10, legs and shoulders at 12, chest and helm at 13, epic weapons at 14. Shaman get healer, melee and caster sets.
Which battlegrounds are in at launch?
Warsong Gulch (10v10, 10–60), Arathi Basin (15v15, 20–60) and the new Darkspear Islands (15v15, 30–60) are in the random queue and Call to Arms rotation. Alterac Valley is named and counts for season journeys but is not in the rotation at launch. Battle for Gilneas exists in the client, unannounced.
