Leveling 1–60 in WoW Forever

The curve is the original one, so route beats everything. Quest in each zone, run each dungeon once with its quests, use every flight path you pass, and stack the small boosts that did not exist in Classic. Racing to 60? Use the speed leveling guide.

Principles

  • One hub at a time. Bind your hearthstone where you will return, hand in in batches.
  • Dungeons for their quests and gear, once each. The XP changes put dungeon XP close to questing, not ahead.
  • Eat cooked food (5% kill XP), rest when you log out, and run the Sleeping Bag chain early.
  • Spend Legacy Points on Talented first on alts: talent points from level 5.
  • Save for riding from level 25. The level 40 mount is the biggest speed gain in the game.

Zone level ranges with the client's area levels are on the zones page; per-hub quest tables for 30–60 are in the quest index. New boat routes (Stormwind to Auberdine, Southshore to Auberdine, Tanaris to the Riverglades) cut the continent crossings.

XP boosts, in order of value

  1. Rested XP: doubles kill XP. Log out in an inn or city or in a Cozy Sleeping Bag. A Camp Tent (Leatherworking 20) raises the camp's rested XP to 5% of a level.
  2. Well Fed food: +5% kill XP for 15 minutes. Cooking from level 1.
  3. Cozy Sleeping Bag: a five-zone quest chain ending in a Hillsbrad jumping puzzle; resting in it gives 1% XP per minute up to 3%, stacking with food for 8% total. Horde have the longer run.
  4. Legacy: Well Rested (rested XP accumulates up to 20% faster, bigger cap), Talented (points from level 5), Thrill of Adventure (health and mana after kills).

Grouping does not reduce quest XP. Since 8 October a lower-level partner no longer drags down your kill XP unless the gap is extreme. Quest drops are round-robined in groups with bad-luck protection.

Riding at 40

Forever uses the Burning Crusade model: you buy riding training and the mount comes with it. Beta players reported about 100 gold in total at 40 (60% speed) and 900 to 1,000 gold at 60 (100%). Extra vendor mounts are 20 gold and 200 gold. Honored with your home city takes 10% off. There are no flying mounts. Details on mounts and gold.

Leveling with friends

  • Same faction, same ruleset, or you cannot group. Battlegrounds are the exception.
  • Stay within a level or two of each other and share quests; quests that start from an item or need a prerequisite cannot be shared (Old Ironforge Incursion is the first one you will hit).
  • A healer plus a tank-capable class (Paladin, Druid, Warrior) clears dungeons without waiting for Group Finder. See class combos.

Questions players ask

How long does it take to reach 60 in WoW Forever?
The beta averaged about 20.5 hours to level 20, almost identical to Classic (20.4). Nobody measured 31–60 because the beta stopped at 30; by the Classic curve and the October XP changes, expect 120 to 200 hours for a first character, less with rested XP, food and a Legacy-boosted alt.
Is dungeon leveling faster than questing?
Not by design. Dungeon quest XP was halved on 1 October, then dungeon kill XP was raised about 20% and party kill XP now uses each player's own level. Run each dungeon once with its quests; chaining the same dungeon loses to a good quest route.
What XP boosts exist?
Rested XP (doubles kill XP only; builds in inns, cities and a Cozy Sleeping Bag), Well Fed food (+5% kill XP for 15 minutes), the Sleeping Bag buff (1% per minute resting, to 3%, stacks with food), the Camp Tent (rested XP to 5% of a level for the camp) and the Legacy perks Well Rested and Talented.
