Hunter leveling guide

The easiest fast leveler. The pet tanks, scales with your gear and heals through Spirit Bond; traps now work in combat; Aimed Shot is baseline at 20. You rarely stop to eat or drink.

Levels 10–19

Tame a Wolf, Boar, Cat or the new Fox at 10. Endurance Training first so the pet holds up. Auto Shot has its 0.5-second wind-up back.

New at the trainer: Aspect of the Hawk (10), Furious Howl (10), Great Stamina (10), Mine! Levels 20–29

Aimed Shot at 20 (baseline), Multi-Shot, Serpent Sting. Focused Fire for shared damage. Feed the pet its diet.

Levels 30–39

Spirit Bond at 30 ends downtime. Freezing Trap in combat on the second mob. Train Mend Pet ranks.

New at the trainer: Aspect of the Beast (30), Lacerate (30), Dash (30), Dive (30), Prowl (30), Thunderstomp (30), Explosive Trap (34), Viper Sting (36)

Levels 40–49

Bestial Wrath at 40 for elites and escort quests. Mail at 40. Riding at 40 with Aspect of the Cheetah until then.

New at the trainer: Sniper Shot (40), Volley (40), Aspect of the Wild (46)

Levels 50–60

Frenzy keeps the pet at 30% attack speed; Lethal Attacks and Careful Aim from Marksmanship. Sniper Shot or Trueshot later if you swap to Marksmanship for raids.

Tips

  • Hunter's Mark no longer stacks from multiple ranks; all traps share a 30-second cooldown.
  • Humans can be Hunters now; Orcs have Command (+5% pet damage) and Trolls Berserking.
  • Cooked food gives 5% kill XP and a Camp Tent raises rested XP; the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain adds up to 3% more. See the leveling guide.
  • Riding at 40 costs about 100 gold in total; start saving at 25. See gold.

Race

Leveling pick: Troll. Berserking (10% attack speed for 15 s) and Rapid Regeneration (50% health over 6 s) keep you pulling without sitting to eat. Full comparison on the Hunter races page.
