The fastest group killer: Frost Nova, Blizzard with Improved Blizzard, and Fingers of Frost turning chills into shattered Ice Lances. Free food and water and portals keep downtime near zero. Cloth and a thin health pool are the risk.

Levels 10–19

Frostbolt, Frost Nova, back up, Frostbolt. Conjure food and water every even level.

New at the trainer: Frost Nova (10), Dampen Magic (12), Arcane Explosion (14), Flamestrike (16), Amplify Magic (18)

Levels 20–29

Ice Lance at 20: 300% damage on frozen targets. Shatter at 25. Blink at 20 for escapes.

New at the trainer: Arcane Blast (20), Mana Shield (20), Fire Ward (20), Pyroblast (20), Blizzard (20), Ice Lance (20), Scorch (22), Frost Ward (22), Arcane Wrath (25), Cone of Cold (26)

Levels 30–39

Fingers of Frost at 30: your next two spells treat the target as frozen after a chill. Cold Snap resets Frost Nova and Ice Block (30).

New at the trainer: Blast Wave (30), Ice Armor (30), Mage Armor (34)

Levels 40–49

Ice Barrier at 40 absorbs and adds 15% Frost damage. Riding at 40. Improved Blizzard for AoE grinding humanoid camps.

New at the trainer: Frostfire Bolt (40), Ice Barrier (40)

Levels 50–60

Winter's Chill stacks; Arcane Concentration from Arcane for free casts. Fire or Arcane at 60 with dual spec once you have raid gear.

Tips

  • Blizzard is the one spell that triggers Frostbite and Fingers of Frost less often from low ranks; keep it current.
  • Orc Mages have Blood Fury (+10% Spell Power) and Hardiness; Gnomes have 5% more mana and Escape Artist.
  • Cooked food gives 5% kill XP and a Camp Tent raises rested XP; the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain adds up to 3% more. See the leveling guide.

Race
