Priest leveling guide

Safer and less mana-hungry than Classic thanks to Spirit Tap, Devouring Plague for every race, wands that fire while moving and Vampiric Embrace, but slow to kill until Shadowform at 40.

Levels 10–19

Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Blast, wand. Spirit Tap after every kill; drink only on long chains. Power Word: Shield before melee reaches you.

New at the trainer: Starshards (10), Desperate Prayer (10), Divine Grace (10), Resurrection (10), Hex of Weakness (10), Mind Blast (10), Touch of Weakness (10), Inner Fire (12), Psychic Scream (14), Heal (16), Dispel Magic (18)

Levels 20–29

Mind Flay at 20 (talent), Fear Ward and Devouring Plague trained at 20 for every race. Psychic Scream on the second mob.

Levels 30–39

Vampiric Embrace at 30 heals you from your own Shadow damage. Shadow Word: Death at 32: only under 20% health, it costs you 30% of your health if the target survives.

New at the trainer: Divine Spirit (30), Penance (30), Prayer of Healing (30), Mind Control (30), Shadow Protection (30), Shadow Word: Death (32)

Levels 40–49

Shadowform at 40. Darkness and Improved Mind Flay make Mind Flay a real spell. Riding at 40.

New at the trainer: Greater Heal (40), Prayer of Mending (40), Prayer of Fortitude (48)

Levels 50–60

Wand Specialization and Mental Strength from Discipline. Dual spec Holy or Discipline for dungeons; Penance (talent) is the Discipline healer's core.

New at the trainer: Prayer of Spirit (60)

Tips

  • Each race has two unique priest spells still; Gnomes join with Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan.
  • Troll Berserking and Rapid Regeneration make the Troll the best Shadow leveler on the Horde.
  • Cooked food gives 5% kill XP and a Camp Tent raises rested XP; the Cozy Sleeping Bag chain adds up to 3% more. See the leveling guide.

Race
