How Frost plays

Frostbolt until Fingers of Frost procs, Ice Lance into the frozen target for the Shatter crit, Frost Nova and Cone of Cold to freeze on demand. Ice Barrier before every pull. In PvP, Frost Nova, Blink, Ice Block and Cold Snap is the full kit.

Rotation and priority

  1. Arcane Intellect, Ice Armor, Ice Barrier before the pull
  2. Frostbolt as the filler (Winter's Chill stacks for the raid)
  3. Ice Lance when Fingers of Frost is up or the target is frozen
  4. Frost Nova then Ice Lance for guaranteed Shatter crits on adds
  5. Blizzard with Improved Blizzard on three or more
  6. Cold Snap to reset Ice Barrier, Frost Nova and Ice Block

Tips

  • Frostbite roots now have diminishing returns in PvP; do not count on three in a row.
  • Low-rank Blizzard triggers Fingers of Frost less often if learned more than 12 levels ago: use a recent rank.
  • Leveling: Frost Nova, back up, Frostbolt, Ice Lance the frozen mob. Water Elemental-style pets do not exist; you are the kite.

Leveling as Frost

The fastest group killer: Frost Nova, Blizzard with Improved Blizzard, and Fingers of Frost turning chills into shattered Ice Lances. Free food and water and portals keep downtime near zero. Cloth and a thin health pool are the risk.
